What is it?

Two main variants: laser-phosphor (blue lasers excite phosphor → white light) and RGB laser / 6P (separate R, G, B laser diodes for pure spectral colours). RGB laser offers wider colour gamut and higher contrast.

Benefits

  • 20,000–30,000 hour lifespan (vs. 2,000–4,000 for lamps)
  • Stable brightness over lifetime
  • Instant on/off
  • Wider colour gamut (especially RGB laser)

Limitations in Dome

Even laser projectors face cross-reflectance. Kirk Johnson (Cosm): "Brightness without contrast does not buy anything because of cross bounce." This drives the shift toward LED domes.
