What is it?

DLP uses a chip of millions of individually tilting micro-mirrors (DMD) to create images. Single-chip DLP uses a colour wheel; 3-chip DLP dedicates one chip per colour for professional use.

DLP in Fulldome

Multi-projector systems (2–9 projectors with edge blending) are the most common fulldome setup. The Hayden Planetarium uses 6 Christie Eclipse projectors — dual-modulation DLP with RGB laser achieving exceptional contrast. But even the best DLP systems face cross-reflectance in domes, limiting system contrast to ~12:1.
