Frame Rate — FulldomeFever Glossary

What is it?

Frame rate (fps) determines how many images are displayed per second. Higher frame rates reduce motion blur, increase perceived sharpness during movement, and create a greater sense of "being there."

Frame Rates in Fulldome

Rate	Use
24 fps	Cinema standard; feels "filmic"
25 fps	PAL regions
30 fps	Most fulldome content today
60 fps	LED dome standard; hyper-realistic
120 fps	Stereoscopic 3D (60 per eye)

Martin Fuchs (Prague Planetarium): "On LED, 30 fps is definitely not enough. 60 fps is the new future for content in LED domes." This doubles rendering and storage requirements — a significant production challenge.
