What is it?

Frame rate (fps) determines how many images are displayed per second. Higher frame rates reduce motion blur, increase perceived sharpness during movement, and create a greater sense of "being there."

Frame Rates in Fulldome

RateUse
24 fpsCinema standard; feels "filmic"
25 fpsPAL regions
30 fpsMost fulldome content today
60 fpsLED dome standard; hyper-realistic
120 fpsStereoscopic 3D (60 per eye)

Martin Fuchs (Prague Planetarium): "On LED, 30 fps is definitely not enough. 60 fps is the new future for content in LED domes." This doubles rendering and storage requirements — a significant production challenge.
